Tech Patient Care UN ICU
Job Requirements

The Patient Care Tech is a full-time role responsible for assisting with direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Key duties include obtaining vital signs and specimens, and performing clinical procedures such as phlebotomy, EKGs, and tracheal suctioning. The position entails providing comfort measures, monitoring and documenting patient conditions, assisting with patient positioning for medical procedures, maintaining a safe environment, and adhering to infection control protocols. Additional responsibilities include preparing equipment, performing post-mortem care, initiating CPR when necessary, ensuring accurate documentation, and actively participating in staff orientation and ongoing education to maintain competency and uphold patient safety standards.



Work Experience

Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent (GED) and possess a Maryland Nursing Assistant Certification, complemented by completion of an approved training program such as a hospital-based program, community college, Emergency Medical Technician, or Medical Corpsmen training. Equivalent on-the-job training may be accepted in place of formal PCT training. A minimum of one year of recent direct patient care experience is preferred, and current CPR certification is mandatory. Candidates are expected to demonstrate proficiency in applying universal safety precautions, responding effectively in emergency situations, and delivering care that addresses the specific needs of diverse patient populations across the lifespan. Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills are critical to facilitate effective collaboration with patients, visitors, and healthcare team members. Maintaining patient safety is of utmost importance, including the identification and mitigation of risks, timely reporting of adverse events, strict adherence to policies and procedures, and ensuring clear communication within the care team.
