<span style="font-family: Arial"><h2 style="text-align: center">Plumber - Facilities & Services</h2><h3 style="text-align: center">Facilities &amp; Services</h3><br><h4>Job Summary</h4>The Plumber performs core roles in construction and maintenance activities including installation, repair, maintenance, or alterations on all plumbing systems on campus. Construction and maintenance repairs must be completed in accordance with building codes, Illinois plumbing codes, and facilities standards while causing the least amount of disruption to building occupancy.<h4>Duties & Responsibilities</h4><ul><li>Installs and maintains all piping for potable or non-potable water systems, including water mains.</li><li>Maintains, services, and alters piping for water systems, water mains, sanitary and storm piping.</li><li>Installs and repairs sinks, water closets, and restroom fixtures.</li><li>Installs and maintains all sanitary and storm piping inside of buildings.</li><li>Installs and maintains all sanitary and storm pumps inside of buildings, when needed.</li><li>Drives and operates service vehicles used for plumbing maintenance, installation, or repairs.</li><li>Assists and trains apprentices.</li><li>Cleans up jobsite upon completion of projects.</li><li>Responsible for proper use and care of plumbing equipment and tools. </li><li>Responds to emergency work during off normal working hours to handle problems relating to the building HVAC needs. </li><li>Other duties as assigned.</li></ul><br><h4>Physical Demands</h4><li>Walking : Frequently </li><li>Stairs : Occasionally </li><li>Sitting : Occasionally </li><li>Lifting/Carrying : Occasionally </li><li>Pushing/Pulling : Occasionally </li><li>Climbing : Occasionally </li><li>Balancing : Frequently </li><li>Bending/Stooping : Occasionally </li><li>Kneeling : Occasionally </li><li>Squatting/Crouching : Occasionally </li><br><h4>Working Conditions</h4><li>Extreme cold : Occasionally </li><li>Extreme heat : Occasionally </li><li>Humidity : Occasionally </li><li>Wet : Occasionally </li><li>Noise : Occasionally </li><li>Hazards : Frequently </li><li>Fumes/Particles/Allergens : Occasionally </li><li>Toxic, Caustic Chemicals : Frequently </li><li>Temperature Changes : Frequently </li><li>Inclement Weather : Occasionally </li><br><h4>Additional Physical Demands</h4>1. Work is assigned through the Foreperson, Sub-Foreperson, Work Management Group, Service office, or via the Associate Director Building Maintenance &amp; Grounds, or his Designee in oral or written form. <br>2. Interacts with Campus Customers, Supervision, and peers. <br>3. Creates a work environment which develops accountability for performance and develops teamwork and unity within the shop and throughout the University campus.<br>4. May work in extreme weather conditions. <br>5. Must be aware of potential danger from moving parts and equipment. <br>6. May be exposed to dust, loud noise, smoke, and cleaning compounds.<br>7. May work in temperature extremes ranging from freezing weather to steam tunnels.<br>8. May work at heights to inspect equipment located on platforms or hung above tall ceilings.<br>9. May work amid hazards of work sites such as dust, noise, and in areas such as coal fired power plants, animal rooms, and laboratories.<br>10.0 May be exposed to radiation and chemical fumes, molten lead and welding arcs. Use of Personal Protective Equipment is required when hazards exist.<h4>Minimum Qualifications</h4><p>1. High school diploma or equivalent.<br>2. Successful completion of a recognized plumber apprenticeship program or five (5) years (60 months) of full-time journey- level plumber experience.<br>3. Possession of current State of Illinois Plumber's License.</p><p>4. Possession of a valid State of Illinois driver's license at time of hire and maintained throughout employment. </p><h4>Knowledge, Skills and Abilities</h4><ul><li>1. A working knowledge of the Illinois State Plumbing Code.</li><li>2. Ability to read and understand blueprints, schematics, drawings, sketches, etc.</li><li>3. Thorough knowledge of OSHA safety regulations and safe and proper use of tools and equipment.</li><li>4. Possess journeyman level skills in plumbing work.</li><li>5. Ability to communicate effectively in order to complete assigned work.</li><li>6. Thorough knowledge and understanding of all plumbing work and University Building Standards.</li><li>7. Ability to communicate and sufficient knowledge of trade to assist and train apprentices.</li><li>8. Ability to exemplify high standards of professionalism, loyalty, craftsmanship, and dedication.</li><li>9. Ability to work with little supervision.</li><li>10. Ability to ensure work is completed properly in accord with statues and codes in a safe and timely manner.</li><li>11. Ability to support the Mission, Vision, Values, Guiding Principles and management operational directions and philosophies of Facilities and Services. </li></ul><h4>Appointment Information</h4><p>This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 3060 - Plumber position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 5/4/2026.
