Safety</font></strong></span></p><p><span style="font-family: Arial"><strong>Duties &amp; Responsibilities</strong></span></p><p><span style="font-family: Arial">Program Implementation &amp; Compliance Operations<br>&nbsp;• Implement and manage day-to-day biosecurity, occupational health, safety, injury management, and PPE programs.<br>&nbsp;• Support execution of the college’s strategic safety priorities.<br>&nbsp;• Serve on and coordinate OSHB Committee and subcommittee activities (agendas, minutes, follow-ups).<br>&nbsp;• Work with departments to implement and maintain safety programs aligned with college standards.<br>&nbsp;• Monitor regulatory and accreditation compliance requirements.<br>&nbsp;• Review laboratory safety audits, track findings, and facilitate corrective actions.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Arial">Operational Compliance &amp; Resource Coordination<br>&nbsp;• Assess safety equipment, training needs, and facility concerns; provide recommendations to the Associate Dean for Research.<br>&nbsp;• Monitor program expenditures and assist with purchasing and budget tracking.<br>&nbsp;• Coordinate corrective actions related to safety audits and facilities issues.<br>&nbsp;• Maintain documentation and ensure audit readiness.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Arial">Training, Emergency Preparedness &amp; Program Support<br>&nbsp;• Coordinate and deliver safety training sessions; assist in developing training materials.<br>&nbsp;• Maintain and update Building Emergency Action Plans (BEAP) documentation and onboarding records.<br>&nbsp;• Provide safety orientation for new hires and graduate students</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Arial"><strong>Minimum Qualifications (Associate Director of Biosecurity &amp; Safety)</strong><br>• Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, environmental health, environmental engineering, safety engineering, industrial hygiene, or a closely related field.<br>• Four (4) years of professional experience in occupational health, safety, laboratory compliance, or a related regulatory field.<br>• Demonstrated experience supporting regulatory compliance programs and safety training initiatives.<br>Preferred Qualifications<br>• Master’s degree in medical technology or clinical laboratory science<br>• Experience within a veterinary clinical organization<br>• Relevant professional certification (e.g., ASCP, CSP, CIH, CHMM, or equivalent) preferred based on program needs</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Arial"><strong><font size="3">Director of Biosecurity &amp; Safety</font></strong></span></p><p><span style="font-family: Arial"><strong>Duties &amp; Responsibilities</strong></span></p><p><span style="font-family: Arial">Leadership &amp; Strategic Biosecurity/Safety Oversight<br>&nbsp;• Provide college-wide leadership and direction for biosecurity, occupational health, safety, injury management, and PPE programs.<br>&nbsp;• Develop and implement the strategic management plan for college-wide safety priorities.<br>&nbsp;• Participate and coordinate the Occupational Safety, Health, and Biosecurity (OSHB) Committee and subcommittees.<br>&nbsp;• Guide departments and service units in customizing comprehensive safety programs across service, research, and teaching.<br>&nbsp;• Hold primary responsibility for federal, state, and local compliance and external accreditation standards (AAHA, AVMA, COE, DRS).<br>&nbsp;• Oversee annual laboratory safety audits and ensure high-level resolution of compliance and facilities issues.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Arial">Strategic Compliance &amp; Resource Management<br>&nbsp;• Advise the Associate Dean and Dean on prioritization of facility, training, and equipment needs.<br>&nbsp;• Establish budget priorities and oversee biosecurity and safety expenditures.<br>&nbsp;• Evaluate safety infrastructure and equipment to ensure long-term effectiveness and risk mitigation.<br>&nbsp;• Lead strategic initiatives to strengthen safety culture and institutional risk management.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Arial">Training, Emergency Preparedness &amp; Instruction<br>&nbsp;• Develop and deliver college-wide safety and biosecurity training programs.<br>&nbsp;• Provide biosafety instruction to veterinary students and other learners.&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;• Manage and oversee Building Emergency Action Plans (BEAP) for all CVM facilities.<br>&nbsp;• Provide building and laboratory safety orientation for new hires and graduate students.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Arial"><strong>Minimum Qualifications (Director of Biosecurity &amp; Safety)</strong></span></p><p><span style="font-family: Arial">• Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, environmental health, environmental engineering, safety engineering, industrial hygiene, or a closely related field.<br>• Six (6) years of professional work experience in occupational health, safety, laboratory compliance, or related regulatory oversight.<br>• Demonstrated experience leading safety or compliance programs, including policy development and regulatory interpretation.<br>• Experience overseeing laboratory safety, occupational health programs, and/or public health compliance initiatives.&nbsp;<br>• Experience developing and delivering training and testing programs in regulated environments</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Arial"><strong>Preferred Qualifications</strong></span></p><p><span style="font-family: Arial">• Master’s degree in medical technology or clinical laboratory science<br>• Experience within a veterinary clinical organization<br>• Relevant professional certification (e.g., ASCP, CSP, CIH, CHMM, or equivalent) preferred based on program needs</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Arial">&nbsp;</span><span style="font-family: Arial"><br><h4>Additional Physical Demands</h4>Persons allergic to animal dander, dust, pollen, hay, etc., may experience discomfort in this position.</span></p><h4>Appointment Information</h4><p>This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5013 - Safety/Environmental Compliance Associate position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible. The budgeted salary range for the Associate Director position is $90,000 to $100,000. The Director position is $95,000 to $105,000. Final salary offered will be determined by a thorough assessment of available market data, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargaining agreements, and budget constraints.
