<span style="font-family: Arial"><h2 style="text-align: center">Graduate Advisor</h2><h3 style="text-align: center">School of Architecture</h3><p style="text-align: center">University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign</p><p style="text-align: center">&nbsp;</p><br><h4>Job Summary</h4>The primary function of this position is graduate advising regarding the School of Architecture graduate programs, graduate college information, graduate admissions, advising, recruitment, and event planning with a focus on strategizing and planning for diverse and productive career trajectories, scholarly work, creative endeavors, and professional practices. The Advisor will work collaboratively with the Executive Leadership Team, alumni advisory board, faculty, staff, and students to sustain the School's well-established partnerships and develop new relationships with academic, professional, civic and cultural groups, and organizations to benefit the School's diverse population of students and alumni.<h4>Duties &amp; Responsibilities</h4><p>Graduate Advising</p><p> • Advise graduate students in the architecture curriculum on all aspects of the graduate program, including but not limited to plan of study, concentrations, fellowships, and CPT.</p><p> • Liaison with the Graduate College to implement and update all graduate processes and policies and process all graduate paperwork in consultation with the Associate Director of Student Affairs, the Associate Director for Academic and Curricular Programming and the graduate college.</p><p> • Advise graduate students on transitioning from the University to finding career opportunities and related information about internships, full-time positions, leadership, employer engagement, and career exploration.</p><p> • Monitor and provide support, resources, and referrals for students on academic probation, including reminding students of petitioning deadlines and coordinating the submission of petitions to the Graduate College.</p><p> • Support international students through knowledge of the H1B/I20 Visa, CPT, OPT processes and inform them of the standards and practices of recruitment, language requirements, development, and international career management.</p><p> • Create and disburse a newsletter for graduate students with important dates and relevant information.</p><p> • Audit and certify all Graduate Degrees for graduation.</p><p> • Provide administrative support for NCARB Licensing.</p><p> • Support awards process for graduate fellowships, assistantships, and scholarships, working with the Associate Director of Student Affairs, the Associate Director for Academic and Curricular Programming and submitting waiver requests.</p><p> • Support student registration for Oral English Exams (EPIs) and the Graduate Academy for College Teaching.</p><p> • Provide backup support for administering external funding allocations for graduate students.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Graduate Admissions Process</p><p> • Assist the graduate admissions process for students entering the M. Arch and joint programs in the School of Architecture, including coordinating the graduate application and review process through SLATE and verifying requirements for all applicants.</p><p> • Assist in coordinating recruiting events and information sessions multiple times a semester.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Graduate and Professional Programming</p><p>• Schedule midterm and final reviews each semester in coordination with the director, faculty, school administration, guest critics, facilities, and IT.</p><p> • Assist with planning and implementing Career Expo including, but not limited to, contacting firms, setting dates, contracting with venues, planning catering, transportation, printed and digital materials, resumes, portfolios, mock interviews, and cover letter workshops in collaboration with faculty, Campus Career Services, and the alumni network.</p><p> • Assist with the implementation of strategic career development programming that overlaps academic experience and professional development to support prospective and current students effectively.</p><p> • Assist with developing and maintaining relationships with college and campus stakeholders to enhance career integration.</p><p> • Graduate Program events in collaboration with the Associate Director of Student Affairs. Included but not limited to admission activities, recruitment activities, open houses and Convocation.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Other responsibilities as deemed necessary by the Director or Associate Directors.</p><br><h4>Additional Physical Demands</h4>Occasional travel for admissions and recruitment activities.<h4>Minimum Qualifications</h4><p>• Bachelor’s degree in architecture, higher education, or related field.Experience in programs of assistance to students in higher education or advising. </p><h4> Preferred Qualifications</h4><p>• Master's degree in architecture, higher education, or related field.</p><p>• Advising experience at the University of Illinois.</p><p>• Knowledge of Illinois School of Architecture.</p><p>• Experience using SLATE, Banner, DARS (or similar) student record systems.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><h4>Knowledge, Skills and Abilities</h4><p>• Knowledge in advising, and knowledge of graduate students and their needs.</p><p>• Excellent interpersonal skills,</p><p>• Ability to respond to concerns, motivations, and learning patterns of graduate students.</p><p>• Excellent communication skills, good teamwork skills and initiative. </p><p>• Ability to work with populations representing a wide range of backgrounds, identifies, and lived experiences. </p><p>• Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and work in a fast-paced environment. </p><p>• Knowledge of information technology, including the use of social media in the delivery of services to students. </p><p>• Ability to travel if necessary.</p><h4>Appointment Information</h4><p>This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the closing date. We strive to provide a competitive salary, considering factors such as available market data, internal equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargaining agreements, and budget constraints.
